intel I7 I5 and hyperthreading

Post by hicpalm » Wed Mar 10, 2010 8:53 am

hello,
does abinit take advantage of hyperthreading with intel I7 processor ?
I have noted that beyond 4 parallel threads there is no benefit in term of overall execution time.
so if there is no advantage with hyperthreading one would go with intel I5 rather that I7.
thank for your comments ...

for those who are interested:
having tried Intel I7 860 cpu (asus motherboard) and I5 750 (on gigabyte motherboard) with intel fortran compiler, and with an equivalent overclocking the results are very similar ( I7 is very negligeably faster than the I5 ).
